Mafikizolo Zim show postponed

Top South Africa pop outfit, Mafikizolo, will have to wait a little longer to reunite with their Zimbabwe fans after organisers of their much awaited ‘Back in Town Concert’ postponed the event to a later date.

The show was slated for this Friday at the Harare International Conference.

However, with the ongoing Xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians in South Africa, show organisers, Proma Events, have called off Friday’s event after widespread threats to boycott the event.

The Pop outfit last performed in Zimbabwe nearly two years ago and have over the years performed both in Harare and Bulawayo.

After violence broke out in South Africa, news of the duo's visit was immediately treated with mixed reactions with critics taking to social media calling for a soft boycott and others registering their displeasure if the show was to go on.

However, organisers had earlier Wednesday morning maintained that they wanted to use the show to preach peace and prove to their counterparts in South Africa how Africans should treat each other.

Mafikizolo were expected to share stage with acts including Andy Muridzo, Selmar Mtukudzi, Suluman Chimbetu, Gemma Griffiths and Tocky Vibes among others.

Zimbabwe Music and Arts Promoters Association chairperson Josh Hozheri said it was befitting to allow a postponement of the show to avoid evoking emotions.
