Pretorians are worried about the brutal killings of their artists. Just a week ago, Sonti Lee – a traditional healer and dancer was shot outside a club in Pretoria.
In November 2022, DJ Sumbody, a popular Pretoria artist, was gunned down shortly after he left for a gig.
Speaking at his memorial service, DJ Sumbody’s brother shared how the late club owner spent his last days.
“That day he made me take four to five takes of that video of him coming out of that red Mustang. We were at my friend’s wedding,” he shared with the attendees and the thousands streaming from around the country.
“When Andile called me to say my brother is coming, I wasn’t sure because he is a DJ. I was surprised to see him at the wedding.”
He says on the day DJ Sumbody shared his last moments with everyone
“He asked me what song do I think we should play and I told him he is P Diddy. You only deserve the best, then I came across the song All About The Benjamins.
“I didn’t get to say goodbye to him but I think that video was me saying goodbye, said DJ Sumbody’s younger brother Koketso.”
During his funeral service in Ga Masemola, Limpopo, his friend Tshepi refuted claims that Sumbody was a drug dealer.
“I dismissed it as paranoia. I wish I hadn’t because maybe he was going to pay a bit of attention to his security detail. The thing is with me is I always thought why would somebody want to harm somebody so harmless. I mean the guy wouldn’t even hurt a fly. But the way they brutally took him out, the way they brutally shot him, it’s as if he was some kind of gangster. That’s why there's conspiracy theories that are suggesting he was a gangster or drug dealer. I’m so sorry guys, the guy was none of that. He was just so good at what he does, so good that I don’t know. Maybe that created enemies for him.”
