South African Celebrities Who Have Embraced Adoption

Some of our favourite South African celebrities have adopted children

There is, without a doubt, no finer feeling than being a parent and watching your children grow up. It always makes your heart ‘smile’ when they call you "mommy" or "daddy."

Those who are unfortunate enough to have children can seek adoption.
It's fascinating to note that some of our favourite celebs have been adopted

Celebrated TV and music producer Sipho 'Psyfo' Ngwenya makes into the list of adopted celebs. He was adopted while 11 years of age by June Kraus who was a domestic worker, now deceased.

More interestingly, some of our celebs have also adopted children. Here are some of the South African celebrities that have adopted kids.

Pearl Thusi


The veteran actress is a proud mother. Other than having her own biological daughter, Thandolwethu Mokoena, the 33-year-old actress has also adopted another daughter. Her name is Okuhle Thusi.


Thando is 13-years-old while Okuhle, who she adopted from Ghana, is six years of age. In 2010, Thusi expressed her desire to adopt children.


On March 7 this year, the celebrated actress took to twitter to gush over Okuhle was celebrating her sixth birthday.

“I can’t believe an imperfect person got to experience a perfect love… thank you for coming into this world and into our lives. I’m proud to be your mother and honoured to call you my daughter. Happy birthday my love,” she tweeted.


Mampho Brescia


The celebrated actress is also a mum to an adopted child. Brescia in 2016 adopted a child by the name Rain. 

The Isibaya star in May this year poured out her heart as she celebrated Rain’s 8th birthday.


"The Universe turned 8. Happy birthday my #rainndropsoflove❤️ 8 years of what GOD intended. 8 years of Gr8tness". She is indeed "Rain", her smile and beauty are everything. Happy birthday to princess Rain,”
she wrote.

Sophie Ndaba


The famous actress, who played Queen Moroka in the soap Generations, also makes it to the list of celebrities that have adopted children.


Ndaba has two biological children, Rudo and Lwandle who she sired with her ex-husband Themba Ndaba. The actress adopted her niece Shallon Ndaba following the death of her sister Tiny Mphasane over 20 years ago.

Siya Kolisi


It not actresses only that have adopted children. Siya Kolisi, a professional rugby player who currently captains the South Africa national team, has adopted two children.


Kolisi, who is married to Rachel Smith, now has four kids with two being of Rachel and the other two of being his siblings who he adopted after their mother die in 2014.

The professional rugby player is father to Nicholas and Keziah while Liyema and Liphelo are his siblings who he adopted.

Charlize Theron


The 46-year-old actress, who is one of the world’s highest paid actresses, has adopted two children.


Last year she shared the photo of her two adopted children Jackson and August. Jackson is 9 while August is 5.

Charlize has been raising Jackson as a girl but in 2019 she told the Daily Mail that Jackson admitted that she’s not a girl.

"Yes, I thought she was a boy, too." Charlize told the Daily Mail.

Bonnie Mbuli


The actress and TV personality is a proud mother of two sons, Micaiah and Hanniel. However, Micaiah is her biological son while Hanniel is adopted.
The 42-year-old actress loves her two kids so much and she adopted Hanniel while he was just three months old.

Rebecca Malope


‘The African Queen of Gospel’ adopted her sister children, Oluthando, Thandeka Malope and Zweli, following her death.


Although adopted them while young, the famous gospel artist managed to take good care of them and they are now grown-ups and have given her grandchildren.
