Many of our veteran talents in entertainment have had to wait until recently to reap the rewards of their careers. So many of our seasoned entertainers have had to wait for the rest of the world to catch up to get their just desserts. Now that the globe is opening its doors more and more to African talent, more of our vets are getting even more accolades beyond our borders.

Thembi is being honored with a Living Legend Award at the 2019 National Theatre Festival in the US for her lifelong contribution to the arts. The prestigious awards will take place in North Carolina from July 29 to August 3. This historic event was established to recognize the extraordinary talent of performers, designers, directors, producers, and technicians from across the country and abroad.

"I feel very honored and so excited to be recognized abroad and not only at home. I have presented my work at that festival for many years and to be finally getting recognition while I'm still alive is a huge privilege. This comes as a pre-70th birthday present," Thembi shared in a statement announcing her big moment.
