Pearl Modiadie’s has been presenting for over a decade but she was once a shy child.
She overcame her lack of confidence after she was thrust into the spotlight after a chance encounter with a casting agent.
Since making her debut as a teenager, Pearl has gained millions of adoring fans - 2.3 million on Instagram alone - and some have gone to great lengths to impress her.
An aspiring singer named Jack wrote a song about her.
“She made an impact in my life,” Jack said on Twitter. Pearl described the gesture as “sweet”.

Pearl Modiade Age
Pearl Modiadie was born on December 29, 1987. She will turn 32 in 2019. Pearl always celebrates her birthday in style. She spent her 30th birthday in the Philippines with her fiancé at the time, Nkululeko Buthelezi.
Pearl Modiadie Background
Pearl Modiadie was born in Johannesburg. She grew up in Ivory Park, which is in the township of Thembisa. Pearl revealed in an interview with The Close Up’s Nicky Greenwall that she lived in a shack as a child. She moved out of the shack when she was nine years old to live with her grandmother.
Pearl, who attended a catholic school, was a star pupil. She says she was motivated by her poor upbringing.
“…the reason I excelled at school was because I saw how I grew up and I knew the only way to get out and create a better life for me was through applying myself at school,” she told Nicky.
Pearl completed her secondary school education at Kempton Park’s Norkem Park High School. She then went on to study towards a diploma in Media studies and Journalism at Rosebank College. She graduated in 2009.
Pearl Modiadie Family
Pearl Modiaidie is the middle child of her family. She has two sisters. Pearl and her father are very close. Their relationship strengthened after the death of her mother, Nondlala Paulinah Modiadie. Nondlala died when Pearl was 19 years old.
“I live to make you proud. Always in my heart,” she wrote about her mom on Instagram in 2016.

Pearl Modiadie’s career in the entertainment industry began when a casting agent spotted her as a teen and asked her to be an extra on a show.
Pearl’s first big TV break took place on the set of children’s programme, Craze. The e.TV show helped make her a star. She went on to produce and present another popular show on the channel, Sistahood.
Pearl's other TV appearances include Come Duze, Expresso, Raw Silk and Zaziwa. She is now one of the most sought-after presenters in South Africa. Pearl has been invited to present at big events such as the South African Film and Television Awards and the Crown Gospel Music Awards.
Pearl is also an actress. She has starred in Rhythm City, Ambitions, Generations and Scandal! Pearl also featured on season eight of Strictly Coming Dancing.
Her professional radio career began at YFM. She worked at the station until 2013. She went on to become a radio presenter at one of South Africa’s most popular stations, Metro FM.
Pearl is also a highly paid MC. In 2006, she was asked to MC the Sunday Times Generation Next awards – making her the youngest person to host the event. She was 19 at the time.
Pearl Modiadie Nkululeko Buthelezi
Pearl Mdodiadie and her boyfriend Nkululeko Buthelezi made their relationship public in 2015. Several months later Nkululeko got down one knee and proposed to Pearl after a romantic helicopter ride in Zambia. Their engagement last two years before Pearl called off the wedding in 2017. Six months after ending their engagement, Pear and her businessman fiancé Nkululeko were back on. Sadly, the romance did not last. Pearl put their wedding plans on ice permanently in early 2018.
During an interview with Trending SA, Pearl revealed why she ended things with Nkululeko.
“I went back the first time because you want to give them the second chance. You know, you want to see if you were right or wrong about them… I think it got to a point where it didn't feel the way it was supposed to. It didn't feel the way we knew it was supposed to. You know what love feels like. When it stops feeling like it and that small voice is talking. It was time to listen and walk,” she said.
Pearl Modiadie New Boyfriend
Pearl Modiadie did not rush into dating after calling things off with Nkululeko Buthelezi. She happily enjoyed the single life until a handsome man caught her attention. Pearl and her mystery man reportedly started dating towards the end of 2018. Pearl shared a picture of him for the first time in 2019.
She is yet to reveal his identity but has gushed about her man on social media.
“We met through a mutual friend. I have dated outside of my race before and it was a long-distance relationship which did not work out because the distance took its toll. So, this was not uncomfortable for my family. His family is also really lovely. They all want what’s best for us,” she revealed during an Instagram Q&A.

Pearl Modiadie revealed in June 2019 that she was obsessed with dieting as a teenager.
“When you’re told to start dieting in your teens because there’s an ‘obesity gene’ in the family, you start obsessing over your weight. I’ve been on diets as long as I can remember. Name a diet, I’ve probably tried it. The scale was my frienemy, still is, but now I exercise!” she tweeted.
Pearl told People magazine in a 2015 interview that she maintains her weight by eating healthy foods and working on her fitness at least three times a week. The TV presenter also shared her diet plan.
“I try my hardest to stick to a healthy diet and only have cheat meals on certain days of the week. I also control my portion intake and spread small meals throughout the day instead of indulging in one big meal…portion control is what’s saving me from gaining weight again."
Pearl Modiadie House
Pearl Modiadie bought herself a new house in early 2019. She is yet to share pictures of her new home but revealed that buying the house was costly. “The additional costs on top of the purchase price of a home are something else hey,” she tweeted in March 2019. Pearl added several weeks later: “I’m getting closer and closer to moving into my new home and this makes me very happy."
In 2017, Pearl Modiadie surprised her father by buying him a new home. She shared a video on Instagram of the moment her father walked into his new house.
“The proudest moment of my life,” she wrote.
