Papa Penny Joins The Yanos Gang

The 'Yanos' has stamped its mark as one of the biggest genres in the Mzansi music scene and musicians who have worked on the genre have assured fans that it is here to stay.

'Yanos', by the way, is a name the skrrr skrrrs of SA have given to 'Amapiano'.

Artists and Producers such as Kabza de Small, DJ Maphorisa and De Mthuda (to mention a few) have been frequenting the airwaves and making sure that we are doing the pouncing cat dance every chance we get.

With the Mzansi music scene constantly reinventing itself, a musician who is all about reinvention is Papa Penny.

The Tsonga disco music artist and reality tv star has made the decision to join the Amapiano movement. He already has a song out titled 'Mphe Mphe' - which is one of the many tracks off his Amapiano-inspired new album.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Papa Penny explained that flexibility is an important component in music.

“When you’re an artist, you don’t stay in the same genre. Artists are not like soccer players; you must change and go with the times.

"I’m moving with the times – that’s why I am on the amapiano,” he explained.

Papa Penny is known to dabbled in many genres. At some point in 2017, he released a hip hop/trap song called 'Goldbone'. For his 'yanos track he says he has worked with fresh talent to make sure he has the amapiano sound on lock.

“I worked with young producers on the album, which know the genre very well,” he said.

'Mphe Mphe' might just be a certified hit, as he says he's already performed the track in the UK and they loved it: : “I just came back from the UK and I performed these amapiano songs to the audience. They loved it!”
