Botswana maintained one of the worlds highest economic growth rates since its independence in 1966 until the start of the global recession in 2008. It has since recovered and grown modestly. Botswana has transformed itself from one of the poorest countries in the world into a middle income country.
Adding to it’s flourishing economy are Botswana’s home grown A-List celebrities that bring in top dollar.

Let’s have a look at the lives of 8 Botswana’s richest celebs.

Shona and Connie Ferguson

It is without question that this happily married couple are millionaires. Shona and Connie Ferguson are from Botswana, but are currently based in South Africa.

They both began their careers as actors. Connie Ferguson played the role of Karabo Moroka in Generations, a television series called The Wild and Rockville. Shona Ferguson acted in Scandal, Muvhango, and The Wild as well as Rockville.

They now own a successful production company named Ferguson Films.
The couple also produces the popular Igazi, played on Mzansi Magic. Ferguson Films also scouted and signed an agreement with Botswana’s Signed International. This is where a lucky winner is given a role in one of their all-star productions.

Shona Ferguson has once made the romantic gesture of surprising his wife with a brand new Mercedes Benz AMG 63.

Connie is the first woman in Southern Africa to launch her own celebrity fragrance named ‘True Self’. The couple also partnered with KDC Opticals to produce ‘Connie Eyewear’.

DJ Fresh

DJ Fresh was born in Botswana on the 15th October 1972. He is a legendary mix-master, music producer, entrepreneur and radio and television producer. He began in the entertainment industry in 1997 on YFM. He left Botswana’s RB2, Big Dawg, DJ Fresh now also hosts ‘Freshat5 on 5FM.

He was a presenter on Tropical Island Show, Studio Mix and Club Culture. Fresh has also sold over a million records with his house music albums, termed ‘Fresh House Flava’. Aside from being one of our most loved DJ’s, he has released music spanning the years, changing the face of music in Southern Africa.

He also continues to dominate music, and has played in Johannesburg, London, Dubai, Melbourne, Brisbane, Moscow and many more places in the world. He has shared the stage with the best DJs in the world, including Jazzy Jeff, Fat Boy Slim, “Little Luoie” Vega and Deep to name a few.

Not only is he a DJ, but he is a businessman. Some of his business ventures have been the running of Big Dawg Productions, F.E.U; a partnership which he has with DJ Euphonik and many others. He recently partnered with BUDDS for bluetooth earphones. He was also a judge on SA Got Talent and has a networth of $3 millions.

Zibanani Oneal Madumo

Zibanani Oneal Madumo was a former Yarona FM and RB2 presenter. He has made it to the elite with his biggest break that came as a result of his stint on the reality show Big Brother Africa, which sold his personality to the rest of the continent.

After his time on Big Brother, Zibanani, landed himself spot on Cliff Central with radio personality, Gareth Cliff, many endorsements followed suit. He is now the brand ambassador for Samsung and Aramis Black Fragrance. His collective worth amounts to over a million rand.

Thabiso Maretlwaneng

Thabiso Maretlwaneng has changed the local television landscape. Thabiso is always spotted around town in his Audi Q7. He owns a company called Deezone Productions. He also produces a show called Letlhabile which beams on the national broadcaster, Botswana Television (BTV). It showcases the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.

Deezone Productions produces the television show Pula Power and showcased a series called Ntwakgolo, sponsored by NACA. They also have a breakfast show on DSTV called Good Morning Africa.

Molefi Nkwete

Entrepreneur, Molefi Nkwete is the owner of Urban Soul stores. He began by ordering sneakers and jeans from the USA back in the late 90’s and selling them from the boot of his car to some of his Hip Hop customers. His stores are spread all across Gaborone and he owns franchise rights. He is also one of the first companies to partner with Barclays Bank of Botswana in offering cardholders reasonable discounts.

His stores operate currently in Rail Park, Riverwalk and Airport Junction Malls. He is an inspiration to the youth with his passion and determination.

From being a rapper along with lecturing at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Euri is the original cover boy. He was born in Francis Town and with his wife, owns one of Urban Soul Clothing stores at Rail Park Mall. He is officially known as Tebogo Motsie

He also has a clothing brand, Real Legends, which is street wear that was founded in 2015

Odirile Vee Sento

He is one of the most successful Botswana artists. At only 34 years, the star is already a millionaire. Vee and his family are living a life of opulence.
His lavish life, hiowver, did not happen over night. He dedicated many hours of work for years on end to reach his goals. He now lives in Phakalane.

Vee and his wife own several cars, namely; BMW X and a Range Rover Sport. There were also reports that he has in the past donated some of his cars to his church after being born again. He continues to cash in through campaigning courtesy of government and through various roadshows.

Mogogi Gabonamong

Mogogi is the only footballer in Botswana history to do trials at the Old Trafford turf at Manchester United in England. At the time, he was still a bit too young to join the team, however, before his return to Botswana, he was one of the top 10 best paid defenders in the South African Football league.

In 2011 he was the highest paid Botswana Athlete, raking in $354 000. He also owns a farm in his home village, Mmutlane, which is a constant retreat for his family.

These celebs are definitely living the life that many of us envy.
