Phew! It’s been a hectic week! From the tense political situation in Kenya, sudden celebrity deaths, to surprise celebrity babies, this week had our emotions all over the place!

Let’s take a look at some of this week’s fortunate and unfortunate events

The queens were crowned

Limpopo native Ndavi Nokeri, was crowned Miss SA 2022. The 23-year old cried tears of joy after Anele Mdoda announced that she had won the title.

The pageant finale took place last Saturday at the glittering Sun Arena in Times Square, Pretoria. Nokeri will represent South Africa at the world’s three most prestigious pageants – Miss World, Miss Universe and Miss Supranational.
In Namibia, 21-year-old Cassia Sharpley was also crowned Miss Namibia 2022 at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino.

The paramedic by profession, expressed gratitude to her supporters and accepted the crown from former Miss Namibia Chelsi Shikongo. She got a car among her prizes and will also be competing at this year's Miss Universe. Good luck ladies.

The entertainment industry was robbed!

On a sad not 2 players in the entertainment world died this week. TKZee's Tokollo Magesh Shabalala and former Rhythm City actor Brian 'Bruno' Majola passed away.

Magesh passed away on Monday, and his death sent shockwaves across the country. His family confirmed his passing in a statement.
"It is with great sadness that the family wishes to confirm the passing of Tokollo 'Magesh' Tshabalala. Magesh, as he was affectionately known, passed away this morning as a result of an epileptic seizure. The family requests for privacy during this difficult period," read part of the statement.

TKZee's band members Kabelo Mabalane and Zwai Bala are reportedly devastated over his passing. According to TKZee's business manager, Refiloe Ramogase, they feel as though a brother has been lost. 

On another sad note, Brian Majola passed away at age 36. According to Drum, his cause of death is yet to be confirmed by his family. A family friend confirmed the news to the publication saying they will compile a cause of death once all the details are made available to them.

Bonko Khoza’s shocking exile from The Wife

Mzansi was caught by surprise by this. After successfully playing Mqhele for two seasons in The Wife, Bonko Khoza announced his departure from the hit series. Stained Glass, the production company behind the record-breaking show confirmed the news. Bonko embodied the character of Mqhele very well. He became a household name with a legion of fans, and his exit left many fans disappointed.

In a press release, the production company said it is currently looking for Bonko’s replacement.

“We know fans are going to find it hard to let go of their picture of Mqhele as Bonko, just as they found it hard, when he was first cast, to let go of the bug-eyed Mqhele they had pictured from the book.” 

“But The Wife has shown that when you go looking for new talent in South Africa, you find it. So we encourage the 5am club to open up their hearts to the next Mqhele, and help us continue to open up the industry,” the press release said.

Bonko has become a household name during The Wife’s run, hailed as “the national husband” by fans and nominated for DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice and SAFTA Awards for the role.

Speaking on his exit, Bonko said, “Having had the privilege to play Mqhele Zulu for two seasons, I realize I’ve taken the character as far as I can”.
“I’m part of finding the perfect replacement and will be watching from the sidelines to support and offer advice where needed,” he added

 Anele Tembe's Death Concluded by the Police?

City Press reported that police investigations have been allegedly concluded in the Anele Tembe case. The aspirant chef who was also girlfriend of South African rapper AKA fell to her death in 2021 at a Cape Town hotel.

What started as a 'suicide investigation' was allegedly said to have 'elements of suspicion of a murder.'

The publication quoted Western Cape police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi who said, “Kindly be advised that the investigation into the matter you are referring to has been completed.

The case has since been referred to the National Prosecuting Authority for a decision, hence the merits of the case will not be discussed on an open platform, in a bid to respect the privacy of the relatives.”

Anele's family is currently preparing to unveil her tombstone and said they have not been following the investigations very closely.

Her father Moses Tembe said, “We are focusing on unveiling her tombstone. It is not a matter that we have been following closely. If there is a further inquiry to happen, it would be part of a process from the National Prosecuting Authority.”

Sbu doesn’t need your validation

DJ Sbu's new look has trolls dragging and trolling him on social media. The entrepreneur and radio presenter's image has evolved over the past few years. He grew out dreadlocks then suddenly let his beard grow even longer.

His fashion sense also changed and him advising people to hug trees is not making things any better.

Trolls have been creating memes making fun of DJ Sbu saying he does not bath and that he looks like a hobo. The mean comments did not sit well with Sbu who called people out on Facebook Live. 

“Apparently people are saying I don’t bath. Guys, come on, there are more serious things we could be discussing in this country. Leave my beard and hair alone," he said. He added that his longevity in the industry makes him not want to prove anything to anyone.

"I have been working for many years guys and I don’t have anything to prove. I’m good.”

Sbu said he will not be shaving his beard or his hair for anyone, “Ni ngi jwayela kabi mara (y'all are now being very disrespectful) but I love guys anyway. I am not shaving this beard and my hair.”
