Majority of our favorite celebrities either studied acting in uni or went straight from high school into a life of fame. However, there are a select few who pursued tertiary education and ventured into academia with a completely different profession in mind, before being lured into a life of fame.

Whilst a degree is not necessarily a prerequisite to achieving celebrity status many musicians and actors alike have pretty extensive training in their respective fields. Not every famous face drops out of school to pursue fame with nothing more than a heart full of ambition, some of our fav celebs are actually very learned and we couldn’t be prouder of their scholarly achievements.

These celebs are proof that you should never judge a book by it’s (good looking) cover because you will be surprised to find out that our favourite celebs have very unexpected qualifications.

Nomzamo Mbatha

Nomzamo can arguably be described as South Africa’s sweetheart. The media personality wears multiple hats and is an actress, a TV presenter, entrepreneur, international brand ambassador and UNHCR Goodwill ambassador. Nomzamo is the embodiment of beauty and brains as she is a holder of a Business and Commerce degree and was also just recently still pursuing a second degree in accounting.

Thuli Phongolo

Another actress on our list is Thuli Phongolo. Although the actress has been making headlines for her turbulent on and off relationship with South African DJ and music producer DJ Maphorisa, she is one of our educated favs. Thuli holds a degree in Strategic Marketing from the University of Johannesburg.

K Naomi

Keitumetse Naomi Noinyane, also known as K Naomi is next on our list. The South African model and TV presenter rose to fame in 2012 and has been setting our screens and timelines on fires ever since. The media personality holds a degree in Brand Building and Management - this is clearly seen in  the way she has managed to build such a strong brand for herself in such a short time.

Ntando Kunene

Next on our list is the 2017 former Miss South Africa. Ntando is the true embodiment of beauty with brains and holds a degree in Education, with Honours in Curriculum Issues from Wits University. The former beauty queen and mom-prenuer continues making boss moves but recently opened up about the struggles of balancing motherhood and studies

Zama Dube

Last but certainly not least is former radio presenter Zama Dube. The media personality has a Masters degree in African Literature from Wits and is currently pursuing her PhD in Cinema and Media studies at The University Of California Los Angeles.

We hope this list motivated you, just as much as it motivated us!
