Celebrities Raised Concern Over GBV

Namibian Celebrities have raised high concern over the increase of women falling victim of rape and are up in arms ready to give their full support in combating gender-based violence in the country.

Personalities such as Maria Nepembe, Lioness, and many others took it to twitter this morning sympathizing the lives of those who have been affected.

This comes after the Namibian Police released a press statement stating that there has been an upward trend in rape cases involving minor victims. 

According to the Namibian Police, during 11-18 July 2019, 13 cases of rape were reported and five of the cases were perpetrated against minor victims.  

Meanwhile, seven suspects were arrested and the rapes were reported in the regions such as  Oshana, Omusati, Otjozondjupa, and Kavango West. 
The report further shows that during 25-31 July, ten cases of rape, of which four involved minors, were recorded in Erongo, Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati, Omaheke and //Karas Regions respectively. A total number of four suspects were arrested.
During the period 05-11 August 2019, 17 cases of rape, of which nine was against minors were reported from Erongo, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, and Zambezi Regions. Six people were arrested in connection with these rapes.
In addition, during the 18-24 August 2019, 17 cases of rape, of which eight of the victims are minors, were reported from Erongo, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Omusati and Omaheke Regions.
