Wizkid now becomes the first most nominated Nigerian artist in Grammy Awards history after being nominated in the 64th annual Grammy awards in two different categories. Wizkids’s album ‘Made in Lagos’ received a nomination for the best global music album and the Best Global Music Performance with his “Essence” in which he features Tems. The Recording Academy  released the 2022 list of nominees on Tuesday evening which includes the much anticipated categories like Album of the Year and Song of the Year.

His song ‘Essence’ which is the fourth song from his album ‘Made in Lagos’ became fans favorite and summer hit song for celebrities in America and most parts of the world. The singers album ‘Made in Lagos has topped charts from Billboard to British Vogue’s “Twelve Best Albums of 2020” as it consists of 14 tracks featuring several stars like Burna Boy, Tems, Damian Marley, Skepta and Projexx.

This comes a few days after this star bagged three awards in the recently concluded Afrima Awards. He clinched three awards out of the four categories in which he had nominated which included; the Artist of the Year Award, best African collaboration and his song, Essence featuring Temz as the best song of the year.

This event was held in Lagos, which saw many artists make an appearance hoping that they would as well scoop an award, (even one). Interestingly, Wizkid was born in Surulere in Lagos meaning patience is profitable, which could the reason why Wizkid started small but is now going all the way to the world.
It might be hard for some imagine that Wizkid would beat such huge names in the industry (not to say he is not huge) especially in the artist of the year award where other nominees like Diamond Platinumz from Tanzania, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Focalistic from South Africa and Omah Lay from Nigeria who is the man behind the loved hit ‘Godly’ were nominated.

Many have congratulated this star including P.Priime who is also an artist and has done several tracks with Olamide, Firebwoy and Dj Cuppy.
It’s so crazy & surreal! God remains faithful and I'm so grateful. Thank you
@wizkidayo for believing, thank you everyone for always supporting, big love to everyone that made this project a masterpiece.
Another congratulatory message was from ChumaNnoli, both a TV and Radio sportscaster, author and Rhymer noting how Wizkid’s album gave his fans all around the world a reason to smile describing it as a ‘sweet one’.

The Grammy Awards arguably hosts the biggest event in the music industry every year, as those seen as the top come together to reward the efforts of the best talents of the year. The 2022 awarding event will be held on the 31st of January at the Staples Center. Other stars who have made it in the nomination list include Burna Boy, Femi Kuti and Tems.

Wizkid earned his first Grammy prize in 2021 for his collaboration with Beyonce on the song "Brown Skin Girl," which was featured on her 2019 album The Lion King. Wizkid joined Burna Boy as a recipient of the prestigious Grammy honors which  they jointly won award.
