5 Celebrities You Didn't Know Are Running For Office

We've almost arrived at the end of the election cycle as political aspirants seeking office rush to make their final pitches to voters on this last day of campaigning, today.

And just as in recent elections, as has become the norm, this election has seen more celebrities jump into the muddy waters of politics with hopes of trading their glamorous designer clothes for bland suits.

We already know some of the high profile celeb names seeking office- from singer Bahati's Mathare soap opera, to comedian Jalang'o who is running for Langata Member of Parliament, to rapper Prezzo wanting the Kasarani constituency seat, to another comedian John Kiarie who is seeking to retain his Dagoretti South parliamentary seat. Other celebrities like musician Jaguar and comedians Nyambane and MC Jessy failed to make it into the ballots for Starehe MP, President and Imenti South MP respectfully.

But there are more celebrities who you may not know are in various ballots across the country. Meet the stars who you may not have known are running for political office.

1. Tony Kwalanda


The former sportscaster is contesting an MCA seat in the Manda-Shivanga Ward of Kakamega. Tony is famous for his work in sports journalism for K24 nd Switch TV. He also graced billboards around the country as the face of betting company BetIn. Tony's doomed relationship with actress Joyce Maina was also fodder for gossip sites while it lasted.

2. Jahmby


Mary Njambi Koikai aka Fyah Mummah has had a most unlikely path to politics. It's even a miracle that the comedian, who is aspiring to be Member of Parliament for Nairobi's Dagoretti South constituency, is even alive- let alone competing in the dog eat dog world of politics. Eveyone by now knows about Jahmby's brave battle with her Endometriosis illness which left her with collapsing lungs and a collapsed career in entertainment which looked very promising.

3. OJ


If you've ever wondered wher OJ from Tahidi High disappeared to since his days from the popular Citizen TV show, here's your answer. Dennis Mugo is vying for the MCA seat for Ruguru Ngandori Ward in his Embu home town. Dennis is running on the mandate of nurturing young talent in the arts and sports.

4. Millicent Mugadi

Millicent is an actress and footballer who found her fame as a Big Brother Africa housemate where she reached all the way to the final of Season 6 which also featured TV host Nic Wangondu. She is running defending her Kariokor/Ziwani ward MCA seat in Nairobi.

5. Frasha

P-Unit rapper Frasha who's real names are Francis Amisi is hopeful of becoming the new MCA for the Athi River Township Ward. Frasha is known for trying hard to maintain an anonymous profile throughout his time in the limelight. He either wore sunglasses to hide his eyes, or wore his hat very low. So this would be the first time that many Kenyans see his actual face in over 10 years.
